Welcome to our new flat! We have been given this lovely little apartment with two bedrooms, a private bath, and a kitchenette. The kids get to share a room and perpetuate Shakamak camp-style living!
The place we’re in is a renovated Backpacker’s (like a hostel). It’s really quite nice, and has a huge yard out back (including a basketball court). We are so thankful for a little place to call our own as a family, yet surrounded by community living. Sharing dinner together in the cafeteria helps us get to know many new people, and the kids get to run around with other little ones before and after meals.
It’s winter here, and the building is a bit warehouse-style (no insulation). It’s chilly in the nighttime, so we’re thankful for a couple of space heaters and warm sleeping bags that can function later as mattress pads when we’re in hotter locations for outreach. It was tricky, packing for various seasons, cultures, and purposes, with limited space and weight!
